Day 6- What is the best way to travel? What is your favorite mode of travel when you have the time? What do you gain the most with your favorite mode of transportation?

Because I live so far away from home, when I travel for a weekend visit, I have no choice but to fly. It’s never been easy, but lately, I’ve noticed it’s damn near impossible to try and schedule a flight from Hartford to Richmond. Granted, neither airport is a major one, and I usually have to fly through Philadelphia to get home, but it shouldn’t be as difficult as it is. I’m going to be traveling at the end of September and it was like pulling teeth to figure out a flight I could afford that wasn’t a red-eye or late night one. I made it happen, but I have to fly to Atlanta to turn around and fly back to Richmond– it should be easier than that, don’t you think? When I have the choice, however, I prefer to drive. Driving gives you a sense of freedom and adventure you can’t get when flying, and you can see places and things you never even knew existed. I love being able to stop in out of the way towns to visit unique tourist attractions and mom-and-pop stores;  those are the places where memories are made. While driving from Charleston to Hilton Head this summer, my husband and I saw places like Backache Acres farm and Cuckold Landing, and we had a blast making up stories about them and the people who live there. You can’t have those experiences crammed into a sardine can five miles above the earth, which is why, when I have a choice, I choose to drive every time.
