Travel- Friday5 for May 11, 2012

A late entry from last week, but I was out of town, so it seems appropriate that this was the Friday 5 and that I answered it while in Vermont…..

 1.      If you could get on a plane tomorrow, where would you go for a week? Where would you go for a month?

A week – home with my husband to visit our families

A month – Russia

 2.      Where do you most want to return to?

Martinique – Bill and I went on a cruise for our honeymoon and it was my favorite of the islands we visited. We took a tour of the island by taxi and the driver was so excited that I could translate for him (French) that he could barely take it.

3.      What was your most memorable meal or drink while traveling?

In 2002, Bill and I went to the American Football Coaches Association convention in San Antonio – the video company he worked with took us to the Little Rhine Steakhouse, which is one of San Antonio’s premier restaurants. It took well over three hours to eat and I felt miserable afterward, but it was by far the fanciest meal I had ever had.

4.      What is the most breathtaking view in your city? How about from your travels?

I live in a small town, but the most breathtaking view in Sunderland, MA is the one that greets me every morning as I drive to work. I cross the “Blue Bridge” from Sunderland to Deerfield with Mount Sugarloaf rising before me. It’s especially exquisite when fall turns the trees into flames, or in the winter when it’s blanketed in a lacy snowfall.

The most breathtaking view from our travels has to be the view of the Grand Canyon from our plane while en route to Las Vegas. We had just flown through a massive thunderstorm over the Rockies and I had a panic attack; suddenly everything cleared and had a view of one of the most amazing things I had ever seen. It made all the scary stuff worthwhile and I like to think it was God’s way of telling me I’d be fine.

 5.      What’s the most “touristy” thing you’ve ever done?

By far, the most “touristy” thing we’ve ever done was see Wayne Newton perform in Las Vegas.
